In December 2019, I took off on a year long backpacking trip starting in Israel, and continuing through South East Asia. My favorite thing about traveling has been spending a significant time in far reaching areas just getting to know a local community- their daily life, their own religious rituals, their food, and their celebrations. For the past few weeks, I have been volunteering with All Hands and Hearts in rural Philippines, helping rebuild two schools that were destroyed by Typhoon Mangkhut in 2018. We are working in conjunction with parent volunteers, local masons, and the Philippines Rural Reconstruction Movement to create a safe learning environment for the children of this community.
