Afghan Family Re-settlement
Please join us in welcoming the newly arrived Afghan family of 6 who we will be helping along with the KI community. The family is living in Brookline.
Robert Lewis Stevenson grew up in Scotland in the mid-19th century. One night when he was still a young boy, he was captivated by what he saw from his home’s front window. He fixated on a lamplighter who was coming up the street with his ladder and burning wick. One by one, the man lit the old-fashioned gas street lamps. The boy’s parents noticed their son’s fascination. “What are you looking at out there?” Young Robert answered, “See that man out there! He’s punching holes in the darkness!”
Please join us in punching holes in the darkness by welcoming our newest neighbors: an Afghan family of six living in Brookline! Our community’s kindness and generosity will support the family in their resettlement.
🔵Please drop CVS, Star Market and Amazon gift cards (in any amount) at the mian 384 Harvard Street Campus Office, attention to Toni, or mail to Mishkan Tefila. These gift cards will help the family buy groceries, toiletries, diapers, clothing, and other necessities.
🔵An Amazon Wish Listhas been created for the family based on their current needs. We will continue to add items and update the Wish List as the children grow and change diaper and clothing sizes, begin school, and develop new interests.
If you are interested in hands-on volunteer opportunities or have further questions, please contact Robin Shuman,robinshuman@gmail.com She can help to get you a volunteer packet so that you can be cleared to interact with the family.
Thank you for helping to shine a light for this family as they settle in. Together we can make a difference!
