Dr. Alan Morinis

Dr. Alan Morinis, DPhil. is the Founder of The Mussar Institute and an active interpreter of the teachings and practices of the Mussar tradition, about which he regularly gives lectures and workshops. Born and raised in a culturally Jewish but non-observant home, he studied social anthropology at Oxford University on a Rhodes Scholarship, earning his doctorate at that university. He has written books and produced films and documentaries and has taught at several universities. For the past twenty years the nearly-lost Jewish spiritual discipline of Mussar has been his passion, a journey recorded in the book Climbing Jacob’s Ladder (Broadway 2002). His guide to Mussar, entitled Everyday Holiness: The Jewish Spiritual Path of Mussar, was published in 2007 and become a best-selling handbook to Mussar for this generation. His guide to Mussar practice, Every Day, Holy Day, came out in 2010. His newest book, With Heart in Mind, was published in August 2014 (all from Trumpeter Books).

Rabbi Eric Gurvis

Rabbi Eric Gurvis serves as Director of Chaverim and Community Engagement for The Mussar Institute. He facilitates Mussar groups throughout the greater Boston area as well as in Western Massachusetts. He is a member of the faculty for The Mussar Institute, and the Hebrew College Open Circles Learning program. He also serves as rabbi of Sha’arei Shalom in Ashland, MA.
 

Rabbi Marcia Plumb

Rabbi Marcia Plumb is the Rabbi of Congregation Mishkan Tefila, and has taught Mussar for 30 years. Before moving to Boston she served as a congregational and day school rabbi, and created and led the Spiritual Formation Program for Leo Baeck College, a Rabbinic Seminary, in London UK.

 

Debra Rosenblum

Debra Rosenblum MEd. CAGS, She is a student and practitioner of Mussar, a spiritual director, interfaith minister and former public-school teacher. She is a 500 hour certified yoga teacher and currently teaches yoga and meditation classes in the Boston area.

 

Caryl Shaw

Caryl Shaw has been a Mussar devotee for 8 years. She is a graduate of Manchim, the Mussar Institute's advanced facilitator training program. Caryl is currently leading several Mussar va'ads at Shir Tikva in Wayland.

 

Heidi Shira

Heidi Shira PhD, ATR-BC, founder of NeshamArts.™ is devoted to the union of Judaism, spirituality, and the arts. She is co-creator of the Lights of Mussar™ Cards; trained SoulCollage® facilitator; developer of Judaic SoulCollage®; long-time student of Mussar and Kabbalah who facilitates workshops in the Boston and Sarasota areas. Heidi is also a licensed clinical psychologist, board certified art therapist practicing in Lexington MA; and can be reached at NeshamArts@gmail.com.

 

Rabbi Michael Shire

Rabbi Michael Shire is the Dean of the Shoolman Graduate School of Jewish Education at Hebrew College with a degree in Jewish History from University College London.

 

Ronit Ziv-Kreger

Dr. Ronit Ziv-Kreger helps engage thousands of parents a year in the Momentum journey toward connecting with Jewish wisdom, with each other and living our story. She serves as JWRP Director of Education and Leadership Development and is the author and editor of Year of Growth, the Momentum year-long curricula resource. She earned her Ph.D. at MIT’s School of Management.
